Clinic Based Therapy Services

What is the Difference Between the Therapy Services and How Do They Work Together?

Our outpatient pediatric therapy services include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech Therapy (ST). Together we provide a comprehensive support for individuals with developmental, behavioral, and communication challenges. ABA focuses primarily on behavior modification, using evidence-based techniques to improve social skills, communication, and adaptive behaviors, often for individuals with autism or related disorders. OT, on the other hand, helps children gain independence while also strengthening the development of fine motor skills, sensory motor skills, gross motor, and visual motor skills which children need to function and socialize across all settings. Speech Therapy targets communication difficulties, including articulation, language development, and social communication. While each therapy has a distinct focus, they often overlap. For example, both ABA and Speech Therapy work on communication skills, but ABA may use reinforcement strategies while ST focuses on language structure and clarity. Similarly, OT and ABA may address sensory regulation and self-help skills, while OT and Speech Therapy can collaborate on feeding therapy when oral motor or sensory issues impact eating. The occupational therapist, ABA, and speech-language pathologist (SLP) will often work closely together to focus on maximizing functional progress during therapy, in order to help new skills carry over into the home, community and school setting. Together, these therapies create a multidisciplinary approach that supports the whole child, ensuring progress across different areas of development.
